It was a historic Monday night at Mexico city as hundreds of thousands of fans thronged to Central Plaza Zocalo to see pop icon Justin Bieber perform. Fans of Justin Bieber didn’t want waste this golden opportunity to catch a glimpse of their adorable pop star light the stage with his electrifying performance. The Central Plaza has a capacity of about 80,000 people. But the Police Officials were expecting to come in huge numbers exceeding 200,000 to attend the free concert.

The venue for the concert was Zocalo, which has its own magnificent history behind it. Its surrounded by some very rare buildings including Mexico’s Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace and the partially excavated remains of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan. The plaza was created by the Aztecs in 1325 and was redrawn after the Spanish conquest of 1521.

Zocal housed another similar event last month for a concert by former Beatle Paul McCartney who managed to gather 230,000 even including Mexico’s president President Felipe Calderon.

The fans went berserk as Justin entered the stage dressed in a trendy grey sweatshirt over a white T-shirt with white pants. The singer also wore neon yellow tennis shoes and was well accompanied by five dancers in neon colours. The teen idol opened the show with his hit number ‘Baby’. The fans were just uncontrollable shouting and chanting “Justin! Justin! Justin!”

Greeting the fans, Justin said, “Mexico City, there is a lot of people today!” Bieber told the crowd. “Every one of you is my biggest fan.”

The massive crowd mainly consisted of girls who had come along with their parents to watch the concert. There was a slight drizzle as well which definitely did not dampen the spirits of the fans. They weren’t going to miss this chance of watching their star perform. The crowd came dressed in a sea of purple, Justin’s favorite color. Many did purchase capes of plastic bags being sold outside by vendors so that they could prepare themselves for a rainy evening.

Four giant screens were also setup which showed parts of Justin Bieber’s music videos during the concert show. The unlucky fans who couldn’t make it to the concert sites were also not disappointed as giants screen were also put up on the streets leading up to the concert site. It was a total carnival!

It was a well compiled concert with Justin playing some acoustic songs and following it up with some of his more energetic songs like ‘Somebody To Love’.

Justin, a big fan of the late legendary Michael Jackson, told in an interview that there was no other artist than the great MJ that he would be spend days in line waiting for seeing the show. “There is no one I admire so much to do something crazy, but if Michael Jackson were here, I would do it for him. So, I do understand the emotion that the girls feel and that makes me feel very honoured,” Bieber said.

The crowd included many fans who had come a long way to just watch the teen star perform. 12 year old Mariana Villanueva travelled from the western city of Guadalajara, while Fernanda Gutierrez Aparicio a 13 year old die hard fan camped with her mother for a week nearby the concert site so that she would be one of the first to enter. She only went home to bath and look after her 15 year old sister who had recently undergone a surgery.

Unfortunately, her Adriana Martinez 41, couldn’t get her daughter Fernanda in the front rows due to hoards of other fans. “I was really disappointed. When we got up front, people were crushing you, not letting you breathe,” Martinez said. Even hours before the concert, “People were jostling each other and it got to the point that you couldn’t move,” she said. “I told my teacher that I wasn’t going to school and not to expect me in class for a few days, because I was going to be out supporting my idol,” Fernanda said. Her favorite song by Justin being ‘That Should Be Me’, Fernanda said, “I want to be Selena Gomez, to be with him,” referring to Justin Bieber’s girlfriend.

Though, not all fans were as lucky as Fernanda. another 13 year old Karina Gutierrez who used a wheelchair was disappointed with the spot authorities who were assigned to look after the seating for the disabled. One of the first fans to arrive, Karina got a seat in the reserved seats which were quite far off from the stage in a corner. “Visibility is not very clear from here,” Gutierrez said. Her father Juan Manuel Salinas said, ““They wanted to see him from up close, it’s not fair that they are so far back.”

Citing the kind of chaos that took place during Justin Bieber’s concert in Norway injuring about 40 people, 5,000 police officials were stationed for the concert event.

Overall, the mexico city was set ablaze by Justin Bieber’s electrifying concert.
