Justin Bieber is in Regina for his concert Thursday night, and teenage girls have literally been running all over town just to catch a glimpse of the teen heartthrob.
Hundreds of fans without tickets competed to win the few tickets that were still available. Radio station Z99 had fans bring in food bank donations for a chance to win a pair of tickets and backstage passes to the fan.
“Everywhere you go, people want tickets,” CC from Z99 said. “They want to know where the Bieber’s going to be, they’re following him around. There’s a Bieber hunt all over the place, yeah it’s unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
The 16-year-old Bieber has quite the track record already. A number one album, a sold out world tour, collaborations with some of the big names in music, and even a Video Music Award from MTV.
Bieber is the most recent in a long line of teen heartthrobs. In the 1950’s it was Elvis Presley and Paul Anka, in the 1970’s it was David Cassidy. Through the 1980’s and early ‘90’s New Kids on the Block were huge, paving the way several years later for the Backstreet Boys. Just before Bieber, it was the Jonas Brothers.
Each idol had varying degrees of success, with some lasting longer than others.
“Will Justin Bieber fade away?” CC asked. ‘It’s hard to say. Look at Justin Timberlake. He was a guy that was a heartthrob when he was in his day, but he’s lasted, so it’s hard to say.”
